Lamar Dodd set for fall unveiling

The newly-constructed Lamar Dodd School of Art is complete and faculty will relocate to the East Campus location throughout this summer.
In 2006, the contracting company Brasfield and Gorrie broke ground on the 167,000-square-foot facility, which ultimately cost the University an estimated $39 million.
"The new school will have many resources for my peers and me to utilize in and outside of classes, and it's very exciting," Whitney Riker, an art education major from Alpharetta, said.

The new site, located near the Hugh Hodgson School of Music and the Georgia Museum of Art, is set to open in fall 2008 - just in time for the class of 2012 to enjoy throughout their college careers.
Linda Henneman, project manager, said that there were no delays in construction and that she was satisfied with and excited by the the end result.
"It went very quickly, [with] very high quality and skilled trades people," Henneman told The Red & Black in an interview. "They did a great job."
The new facility will serve a range of needs, including: additional classrooms for undergraduate and graduate studio and art history programs, faculty studios and administration offices.
It will also house 10 of the 14 areas of concentration of Lamar Dodd School of Art.
Riker said she believes the new art school will be beneficial to all students, but she said she still has concerns about the classroom locations.
"I know that most of the areas are relocating to the new building, but not all of the classes," Riker said.
Although there are many benefits to the new art school, some art students must adjust to the possibilities of having class in both buildings.
