Cost to get Georgia season tickets skyrockets

Issue date: 7/14/08 Section: Sports
Don't have season tickets for Georgia football this year? Want some?
Good news is there are some available, about 800 of them. The bad news: It's going to cost way above the $40 per game face ticket price to get them.
The Georgia Athletic Association released the point requirements (read dollars) contributors must accumulate to purchase renewable season tickets, single game home tickets, and away game tickets. The score is attained by each contributor on the basis of lifetime giving to the University.
Last year the points needed to get season tickets for first time donors or donors looking to add seats: 2,000. This year: 10,651. That's an increase of 500 percent.
How Bout them Dollars.
"Contributors with a cumulative score of less than 10,651 who requested additional or new renewable season tickets for the 2008 season will not receive additional or new renewable season tickets," the Athletic Association news release states.
To get single home games, contributors will have to achieve at least the following totals:
Georgia Southern: No single game tickets available.
Central Michigan: 13,752
Alabama: 100,000
Tennessee: 100,000
Vanderbilt: All contributors who ordered single game tickets will receive tickets.
Georgia Tech: 33,251
For away games:
South Carolina: 22,000
Arizona State: 27,007
LSU: 30,415
Florida Club Level: 42,500
Florida: 8,460
Kentucky: 8,405
Auburn: 25,850

Since athletic director Damon Evans took over the seat from Vince Dooley, the UGA football scene has turned into one big commercial venture. Shortly, the average UGA fan will no longer be able to attend football games in person as ticket prices and the amount needed to even QUALIFY for ticket prices continues to skyrocket. (Continued…)

I feel very disappointed by this outcome. 2 years ago I was serving in Iraq and between that and moving the family to a new assignment across several states my Season Ticket form was not returned to the UGA ticket office in time to renew my season tickets. (Continued…)
