The good news for the Bulldogs is cornerback Prince Miller's arm injury isn't serious, as it is a Grade 2 A-C sprain, which is essentially causing soreness and pain in his right shoulder.

On Monday, Miller laid out for an interception and landed on his right shoulder. Miller, along with head coach Mark Richt does not expect to miss much time, possibly just a week.

"It's just some soreness and I don't expect to be out too long," Miller said.

When asked if it was a downer to get back on the field and get hurt on the first day, Miller said he just has to focus on getting better.

"Yeah it's a downer but you just got to get past it," he said.

Southerland to get MRI on foot in two weeks

Fullback Brannan Southerland's foot is no longer on crutches or in a cast and is now in a protective boot, with the senior fullback able to put his full weight on it.

"It feels better everyday," Southerland said. "We're increasing the amount of reps and rehab and stuff we're doing to it everyday. We're picking it up and letting it take us where it needs to go."

Southerland said he's not participating in any drills whatsoever, but said he's trying to help out the younger running backs as much as he can.

Southerland said that he will be getting an MRI on Aug. 18. If that goes well, he will be in tennis shoes soon, and then the training staff will begin to have a better understanding of where the timetable for him playing again is. Right now the thinking is that it is a definite, according to Southerland, that he will be back for the Tennessee game.

"Anything before that is a blessing, but if the foot feels good in the tennis shoe and everyhing goes well then we might push for Arizona State.," Southerland said. "But that would be the very earliest."

Green had hip flexor on day 1

Freshman receiver A.J. Green didn't practice Tuesday as he suffered a hip flexor on Monday's first day of camp.

"A.J., relatively early in practice, got a hip flexor," Richt said. "It's nothing serious, but serious enough to keep him out of the rest of yesterday and today. So we haven't been able to see much other than early on."

Richt gives his standout list, talks about redshirts

At most practices, Richt will mention some names of players who have stood out recently. Here is the Aug. 5 edition of an extremely short list:

All the quarterbacks, they've been throwing it well.
Of the QB's, Logan Gray is the most improved. Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo asked Richt not to mention that. Richt did it anyway.
Richt was asked who he thought was going to have a breakout year out of all the redshirt freshmen, especially since Knowshon Moreno had a tremendous campaign last year. Here is that list:

Richt also talked about the guys being looked at for punt return duties. Here is that list, based on the criteria that they have caught punts in the past:

Richt's impression on Walsh's first kick at Monday's practice

Richt said the first kick he saw from freshman Blair Walsh was a beauty.

The freshman kicked it through the uprights at the practice field and the ball landed in this basket that is attached really high on a pole - where the team films its practices.

To say the least, Richt is really excited about Walsh.
