The Georgia women's soccer team will hold the first of four consecutive three-a-day practices Wednesday as the Bulldogs begin preparations for the 2008 season.

"We are extremely excited," head coach Patrick Baker said. "When we see the team for the first time it will be some of the best collection of talent at any one time in Georgia history, and that is exciting. I think it will rank right up there with some of the best teams to wear the red and black."

Georgia returns nine starters from last year's squad that won a school record 18 games and played host to the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs' top statistical returners include junior Carrie Patterson, sophomore Caroline Simpson and freshman Marah Falle.

"We have so many veterans coming back, we will be able to jump into some more advanced things than in years past," Baker said. "Our focus is hopefully playing individually and collectively better than we did last fall and even more so than the spring."

Georgia plays host to Mercer in the season opener on Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at the UGA Soccer Stadium.
