For the second time in two years, University counseling professor Edward Delgado-Romero has been named a Fellow of the American Psychological Association.

Delgado-Romero, an associate professor in the College of Education's department of counseling and human development services, was recently inducted as a Fellow of the Society of Counseling Psychology (Division 17).

Delgado-Romero was selected as a Fellow of the APA's Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues (Division 45) in 2007.

He previously chaired the Society of Counseling Psychology's section on Ethnic and Racial Diversity, and is one of the founding members of the National Latino Psychological Association, also serving as the president elect.

He was named 2006, 2007 and 2008 Faculty Member of the Year by the Counseling Psychology Student Association at the University.

In 2005, Delgado-Romero received the Emerging Professional Award from the Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues, American Psychological Association Division 45, for his contributions in the promotion of ethnic minority issues within 10 years of graduation.

Fellow status is an honor bestowed upon American Psychological Association members who have shown evidence of outstanding contributions in the field of psychology and whose work has had a national impact on the field.

Delgado-Romero joined the University faculty in 2005 after serving three years on the faculty at Indiana University and five years before that at the University of Florida. He received his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Notre Dame.

His research interests are in multicultural psychology, Latino/a psychology, race and ethnicity, faculty of color retention and multicultural competence.

Delgado-Romero is the third University faculty member to be named Fellow of the Society of Counseling Psychology. Previous inductees include Dean Arthur Horne and Brian Glaser, a professor in the department of counseling and human development services. Horne, a Distinguished Research Professor, is a Fellow of several American Psychological Association divisions. A fourth professor in the department, Linda Campbell, is scheduled to be inducted as a Fellow in 2009.
