Students can quit their full-time job of searching for dropped classes on OASIS as the drop/add deadline approaches.

Students now have five days to add classes and four days to drop, an allowance first proposed by the Student Government Association last spring.

After all classes have been dropped, students have an extra day to pick up any classes they need, SGA President Connor McCarthy said.

This will decrease the number of wasted seats in high-demand classes, he said.

In the past, students would drop classes at the last second, leaving no time for others to add them. The time crunch will no longer be a problem.

In addition, the deadline to withdraw from classes has been extended to two weeks after the midpoint.

Students have more time to receive their grades and make an informed decision on whether to withdraw from a class or not, McCarthy said.

Midterms are usually taken during the week of midpoint. Now, professors will have time to return grades to students.

The extra day to add classes and the extension of the withdrawal deadline were two ideas the SGA proposed to the University Council's Educational Affairs Committee. They were in response to the committee's decision to limit a student to four withdrawals during their time at the University, McCarthy said.

"In light of the new withdrawal policy, which SGA fought hard against, we proposed several ideas in order to compromise with the student body," he said. "We were able to push through two of these."
