This lowercase Greek letter (Lambda) was chosen in 1970 by Gay Activists Alliance of New York. The symbol quickly became a way for LGBTQ individuals to promote and identify events going around in their communities without writing the words "gay" or "homosexual" in public where they would not be accepted. They thought that the lambda would be mistaken as a fratenity symbol by the rest of the population and would remain somewhat of a "secret." However the GAA headquarters was soon after arsoned. But the symbol could not be destroyed.

Executive Director: Shawna Scott

Meets: every Monday, 5:30 in Room 124 of Memorial Hall

Not only is the Lambda Alliance a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer organization that promotes awareness and events on and off campus, it is a safe-haven for those in or associated with the LGBTQ community. It also exists as a support center for individuals coming out to their friends and family. Lambda Alliance events are by no means exclusive to those of LGBTQ orientation.

Past events and involvements have included the Millenium March on Washington, the Atlanta AIDS WALK and the Atlanta Pride March.

Lambda Alliance members pride themselves in staying informed and aware of LGBTQ issues going on in America including gay marriage legislation.
