Students deserve to cheer on their team

As a sophomore at the University, I have absolutely fallen in love with the school, the city of Athens and, of course, our amazing sports program. I defend this University as if I were its president or founder.

The University is my home, and I have never said one foul thing about anything involved with this school.

I would like to review some of the "Guiding Principles" that I have copied verbatim from the Athletics Association Web site.

Integrity: We shall always do the right thing.

Welfare of the University: Our actions and decisions should seek to collectively better the University and the University community, including alumni, administration, faculty and students.

Customer Satisfaction: We must remember that we represent many constituents and we shall represent them and this University in the utmost manner.

If you are always doing the right thing, you seek to collectively better the University community including STUDENTS, and you remember to represent each constituent in the utmost manner, how is it that the very students you should be working for have been shafted in ticket sales?

This is our school; we are the heart of the University. It is undeniably wrong to keep us out of the stadium that was built for Georgia fans to cheer on their team.

We are the fans. We are the students, the life of this school. To deny us this right is just plain greedy.

I understand completely that alumni will offer many more dollars than the students can.

However, if you are so tragically compelled by money, why not charge the alumni (who actually have salaries) more for tickets? That way, every enrolled student at the University can exercise their right - not just the privilege - to attend any University sporting event.

Also, please don't forget that we are the future alumni of this school.

Do you think it's a good idea to mistreat the thousands of people from whom, in a few short years, you will be asking for donations?

Univ. leadership 'severely lacking'

I am appalled at the student ticket process. My girlfriend, who has more than 100 hours at the University, only received three home game tickets and no away game tickets in her final semester at the University.

I love the University and enjoyed my time while I was in Athens, but I must say the leadership at the University is severely lacking.

I think I can speak for all alumni when I say, I will never donate anything to the University as long as Michael Adams remains as president.
