Senior outside hitter Maria Taylor was named the Southeastern Conference's Offensive Player of the Week.

Taylor, a native of Alpharetta, Ga., helped the Bulldogs to a 3-1 record last week including a 2-1 mark in the Duke Invitational where she was named to the All-Tournament Team. Taylor averaged 4.80 kills per set on a .253 attack percentage and posted 2.87 digs per set over the four matches. Furthermore, Taylor averaged a double-double with 18 kills per match and 10.75 digs per match.

Taylor helped Georgia to wins over Mercer, Colgate and Seton Hall. The Bulldogs single loss on the week came in a five-set match with Duke on Sept. 6. In that match, Taylor recorded 32 kills on a .316 attack percentage. It was the fourth 30-kill match of her career and was just one shy of her career-high 33 kills at Georgia Tech in 2007.

For the season, Taylor leads the Bulldogs with 124 kills and her 4.96 kills per set ranks first in the SEC.

"I know Maria will be very appreciative of the honor, but knowing Maria she would trade it for a win in that final match against Duke," Georgia head coach Joel McCartney said. "If we would have won that match, she would have been the Most Valuable Player. A 32-kill match was not so unordinary in the 30-point scoring format, but now with a 25-point scoring system it is going to be a rarity. It was a pretty special performance to not only watch her get 32 kills but to do so with such a high hitting percentage on the outside."
