This is not how the Georgia volleyball team wanted to begin its four-game swing through the Lone Star State.

The Bulldogs were defeated in four sets (25-22, 25-21, 24-26, 25-15) by the University of Texas-San Antonio last night.

Georgia (5-3) was led in the match by sophomore Erika Clark who tallied a total of 11 kills. Senior Maria Taylor had a double-double, compiling 11 digs and was second on the team with 10 kills, 22 fewer than her season high of 32 she set in the Duke Invitational this past weekend. She had her lowest hitting percentage of the year, at just .128. Freshman Carla Tietz led the Bulldogs on defense with 19 digs.

The story of the match was the play at the net, where Georgia was dominated, getting out-killed 62-43.

The Bulldogs didn't play poorly to open the match, getting out to a 13-11 lead, but UTSA (2-6) came back to take the lead and the set. In the second set the Roadrunners dominated at the net with a total of 18 points coming off of kills.

Georgia fought back in the third set and seemed to be gaining momentum. The Bulldogs had a 23-20 lead, but the Roadrunners fought back and took a 24-23 lead and a match point. But Georgia won three straight points to take the set 26-24.

Any momentum gained from the win was short-lived as the fourth set was all UTSA. With the set tied at three, UTSA went on a five point streak and never looked back as it won the set 25-15 and the match 3-1.

After a pair of disappointing losses, the road ahead for the Bulldogs does not get any easier. They will play in the Texas Invitational beginning today at 4:30 p.m. against Houston, with a double-header on Friday, against Texas State at 11 a.m. and No. 4 Texas looming in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m.
