Weekend study sites limited at University

Unlike the majority of the Athens collegiate populace, I spent Friday night studying at Jittery Joe's. Before getting there, however, I spent a good 30 minutes wandering around campus trying to find a quiet nook to study and, low and behold, all of the campus resources available to non-freshmen were closed! Surprise, surprise.

The main library closed at 9p.m., as well as the law and science libraries, and the SLC closed at 7 p.m. For those students who need to study on the weekends and are unable to do so in our own apartments due to loud environments, we should have the option of studying on campus, where we pay to maintain the buildings.

Closing these resources at such an early time inconveniences students and leaves them with no other option but to camp out in the nearest coffee shop offering free Internet and, on a date night, Jittery Joe's is not exactly the quiet atmosphere I was aiming for. So thank you, University, for depriving your hardworking students of yet another much needed resource.

Bumper sticker removal immoral

I was a little confused today when I got back to my car parked in the North Deck and realized that my John McCain bumper sticker had been removed from my car and discarded on the ground.

My views are my views, and­ I never would have thought of removing an Obama sticker from an individual's car. I guess I have higher morals. I am amazed someone would go around and try and stop me from representing who I believe will lead this country in the right direction.

To whomever is responsible: I have five more on order so you did nothing more than contribute a small amount to the McCain campaign - way to help out your cause.

Student Accounts offers options

After reading John Nelson's Friday article about his problems with Student Accounts, I think there's information more people need to know. If you miss the initial deadline for your payment and get charged the $50 late fee, all you have to do is call Student Accounts and ask them to waive the fee. They will do that twice for you without any problems so you don't have to rush and beat that deadline.

Although I agree they should accept Visa and it's ridiculous they don't, you have another option besides searching through your (or your dad's) wallet for other cards. You can link your checking account directly to your student account and they will take your payment electronically that way.

This is actually a better option than paying with credit (unless you're just trying to build up credit card rewards) since they don't charge extra fees.
