The cross country team will take its winning act on the road this weekend to participate in the Catamount Classic in Cullowhee, N.C.
Cullowhee's mountainous terrain and cooler temperatures will pose a challenge to Bulldog endurance runners competing in the season's first race away from home.
The team's confidence is high after a men's and women's sweep of Georgia Tech in the season opening race at the University's Intramural Fields Sept. 4. Head coach Jeff Pigg was even more impressed given the team's lack of formal training that early in September.
Freshman Kristie Krueger's second-place finish (just a second behind All-American senior Natalie Picchetti) suggests that the women's team will enjoy considerable depth as the season continues.
"I think our women can do very well this year," Pigg said. "I saw some very good things in the first meet."
Typically seen as a "blue-collar" team, the men performed very well, and Pigg said he looks forward to challenging the men and pushing them to their potential.
