Munson gives Bulldogs great memories

As I read the article about Larry Munson retiring, I read with shock and sadness, as I am sure every other member of the Bulldog Nation did.

One thing in particular stood out to me, though. Larry Munson thinks he owes us more.

Mr. Munson, you owe us absolutely nothing. You have given us 42 great years of Georgia football memories. On behalf of the Bulldog Nation, I thank you. If anything, we owe you, as you have called Georgia football games from the goodness of your heart, and you have made everyone proud to be a Georgia Bulldog. Thank you Mr. Munson for the greatest Georgia Bulldog memories that will stick with me for the rest of my life.

Better sex ed a well-founded idea

I understand people's outrage at Drew Hall's column on Tuesday ("Abstinence only sex ed 'not working'"), but the core of the message still needs to be addressed.

Though mandatory birth control for people on government assistance may be extreme, it is true that uneducated people having children they can't support perpetuates a cycle of poverty and hardship for a portion of the population.

It is also true for teenagers of other socioeconomic classes: having a baby as an unprepared teenager digs you into a hole that it is hard to get out of.

The message of better sex education is a well founded one. If people have access to and knowledge about sex as well as methods of birth control they will be able to make more educated decisions about their own sex lives.

Columnist forgets 'the enlightened'

(This letter is in response to Wednesday's column, "Three types of students roam campus.")

In your broad sweeping and mindless attempt to classify college students into three groups, you ignored the most important group of all, "the enlightened."

We of "the enlightened" are those college students who, after years of schooling, have both seen and experienced the massive disconnects between academics and "the real world." We've put in the time, made the grades and lost interest.

We're bored with mundane lectures from professors who many times have little to no real world experience in the fields they instruct.

We're bored with textbooks and theoretical musing of how the world works. We realize the college experience is rich with life lessons that aren't found in the pages of a textbook.

But as the world's future leaders we recognize the importance of you "troopers."

Your ability to live a disciplined, scheduled life makes you excellent employees. March on troops, you're needed on the front lines.
