If No. 3 Georgia beats Alabama on Saturday, it doesn't matter what second-ranked Oklahoma does in its game against TCU.
At least that's what ESPN College GameDay analyst Lee Corso thinks.
"I don't care if Oklahoma wins 150-0," Corso said. "For the simple reason of who they play. TCU. How many people heard of TCU? Not anybody here. They're very good. But you beat Alabama, No. 9. I think they're better than 9. I think they are one of the top 5 teams in the country."
Corso said this since Georgia and Oklahoma will be fighting for the top spot as No. 1 USC lost to unranked Oregon State 27-21 on Thursday.
Corso and the GameDay crew began filming for ESPN today at around 2 p.m. Corso and fellow analyst Kirk Herbstreit filmed two segments that aired on tonight's ESPN broadcast.
In the segments, the two analysts previewed Saturday's game, which aired on Friday night's SportsCenter broadcast.
At the end of the taping, head coach Mark Richt made a cameo and gave Herbstreit and Corso commemorative black Georgia jerseys - both with their names and numbers from their college days.
When asked about his jersey, Corso said, "Oh yeah, Florida State, Sunshine Scooter!" in reference to his playing days with the Seminoles.
With Georgia vying for a No. 1 spot this weekend, Herbstreit was asked whether Alabama had a legitimate claim for the top spot as well with a win.
"Yeah, because of who they've played," Herbstreit said. "If Georgia wins, if you think about the fact they went to South Carolina and won. They went to Arizona State and won. They would've beaten Alabama, a top 10 team, and that's a pretty good résumé.
"And Alabama, what they did with Clemson, what they did last week against Arkansas and if they win on the road in Athens, that would be a strong case.
"But then you've got Oklahoma though, who, to me, is a very talented team to me."
GameDay contributor Desmond Howard said the game will come down to the play on both offensive and defensive lines, even though he thinks Georgia has the better skill position players.
"I think Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno are two of the best in the country but it all starts up front," Howard said. "Whoever wins in the trenches is going to win this game. It's going to be interesting to see what happens in the trenches."
