Sarah Raymond, a senior from Alpharetta, slipped from the roof of the house on South Milledge Avenue and fractured her skull Friday night, her mother, Shurley Raymond, told The Red & Black Monday.
Raymond, the vice president of membership for the business fraternity, is in the intensive care unit of Athens Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition.
Raymond told her mother she felt very lucky.
"She had quite a few problems. She will recover, but it will be a long, drawn out recovery," her mother said.
Jesse Kuiper, president of the fraternity, said Raymond's fall was "unfortunate."
"We had a member slip and fall. It was an unfortunate accident. It's unfortunate that it happened to one of my good friends."
Brad Furman, a senior from Roswell, and Andrew Maley, a sophomore from Moore, S.C., witnessed the accident. Furman declined to comment when contacted by The Red & Black. Efforts to contact Monday Maley were unsuccessful.
Kuiper says his thoughts are with Raymond.
"I love her and I can't wait for her to get back," he said. "She means a lot to me and a lot to the brothers of the fraternity."
Raymond's mother was optimistic about her daughter's recovery.
"She's a strong girl," she said.
The Alpha Epsilon chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi has been at the University since 1922.
The group is among the 20 largest national college fraternities that offers fellowship for pre-business and business-related majors.

I guess the next question is, what was she doing on the roof?

Wasn't this at a party? was she drunk? high? Wht does the kid on the roof with her mean he declines to comment?

It doesn't matter what she was doing on the roof. Our job, as a UGA student community, is to wish her a speedy recovery and keep her in our thoughts and prayers. (Continued…)

The UGA community is a pretty big group of people. It seems like there is plenty of room to ask many questions, including "why was she on the roof?" Partying? Cleaning gutters? The "why" of the story is especially loud in its absence. (Continued…)

My prayers go out to this young woman and her family for the strength and support needed for a full recovery. God bless.

It is not a roof per se. I have visited that house a few times with friends and it is a balcony. There is a door that leads to a small area outside in which there are chairs and people commonly hang out. (Continued…)

It's not "finger-wagging" to be critical of the first two responses to this article. Too often, we blindly blame people for being high, drunk, etc., without keeping in mind that someone was seriously injured and in need of our support. (Continued…)

Unfortunately, until Coastal Dawg logs on with an explanation, we won't know how to interpret this event in terms of the decay of society and the peril of our immortal souls. (Continued…)

I wish her a speedy recovery. It sucks that something like this happened.
However, I do believe we are owed an explanation of why she was up there and what caused her fall. (Continued…)

Not once did I jump to conclusions on how she might be drunk, high, etc. I just simply asked why she was on the roof, and even if I did ask if she was drunk, high, etc. (Continued…)
