The Georgia volleyball team got its first Southeastern Conference victory Friday night as they defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks in straight sets at the Ramsey Center.

"It is really good to get a win, obviously," head coach Joel McCartney said following the match. "It was a tough task because we had to fight ourselves emotionally coming in, feeling like things weren't going well in the SEC thus far."

Georgia now goes to 1-4 in the SEC, and snapped a five game losing streak that dates back to Sept. 12 against the Texas Longhorns. McCartney now thinks that the team has the monkey off of its back.

"You know we put that behind us with this win," he said. "We still have a lot of work to do…but, we certainly need to feel good about this for a while and let it feed our confidence."

Georgia received a superb performance by sophomore Lindsay Gehan. Gehan had a career-tying performance with 15 kills, but set a career high with a .591 attack percentage.

For senior Maria Taylor it was all about 7's. As number seven on the team, she recorded her 7th double-double of the season, and with her 12 kills, she moved into 7th spot on the all-time kills list with 1,547.

Georgia and Arkansas would trade the lead three times in the first set before Georgia took command of the set, winning five straight points and taking a 14-11 lead. Gehan would lead the Bulldogs in the first set with 6 kills as the Bulldogs won it 25-22.

The second set saw more of Gehan, as she posted 5 kills. There were five ties in the set, but only one lead change, as Georgia took charge to build a commanding 23-13 lead. Appropriately, Gehan would close the set with a kill as Georgia won the set 25-15.

Taylor would take charge in the third set, recording 6 kills of her own. The two teams would tie several times before two set points gave the Bulldogs a 25-23 win in the final set.

"I tell you what, offensively, we were really in the groove tonight," McCartney said. "Very proud of the team, certainly we had some great superlatives individually, but I'm really just proudest of the team."

Georgia will next face the Ole Miss Rebels Sunday, first serve set for 1:30 p.m. in the Ramsey Center.
