After winning their opening round singles match in Thursday's opening round of the D'Novo/ITA Men's All-American Championships, things looked good for Georgia juniors Jamie Hunt and Nate Schnugg.

However, neither was able to advance to the Round of 16 in Tulsa, Okla.

After outlasting UNLV's Elliot Wronski, the No. 12-seeded Schnugg was defeated by Notre Dame's Brett Helgeson 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

The 23rd-ranked Hunt quickly dispatched the No. 15-seeded Bassam Beidas of Pepperdine in the morning's opening round 6-4, 6-1, but he too lost in the second round to LSU's Michael Venus.

This year marks the first time Georgia has not won the All-American Championship since 2005.

Former Bulldog Travis Helgeson won the tournament in 2007, and a year earlier, John Isner was also crowned champion.

All is not over for Hunt and Schnugg at the All-America Championships, however, as the duo participated in doubles action and defeated Texas Christian's duo of Emanual Brighiu and Adrian Simon, 8-2.

They will face either Tulsa or Pepperdine in today's second round action.

University golfer represents Scotland at tournament

Georgia women's golf super-sophomore Krystle Caithness posted an even-par 73 in Thursday's second round of the 2008 World Amateur Team Championships in Adelaide, Australia and is tied for sixth in the individual field.

Caithness, representing her native Scotland, is at 1-under after two rounds, seven shots off the pace of Sweden's Caroline Hedwall.

As a team, Scotland is tied for 17th in the 48-team field at 11-over. Sweden leads the competition at 15-under, eight strokes ahead of Spain.

Caithness, who had two birdies, a bogey and 15 pars in the first round, endured a much more up and down round yesterday. She had five birdies, three bogeys, a double-bogey and four pars.
