Fresh from returning from the Jimmy V Dinner Auction, Georgia women's head basketball coach Andy Landers was bestowed another honor Saturday.
Following the Lady Bulldogs' morning practice, which 20-30 former players watched, a display was unveiled honoring Landers for his induction into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in the summer of 2007.
"This is very humbling," Landers told georgiadogs.com. "I've said it many times, there aren't many coaches in Halls of Fame who didn't coach great players and have great staffs. I've been here 30 years, but I've never scored a point. This is an achievement that each and every one of you share in and I want to sincerely say 'thank you.'"
Landers, with 789 wins in his 33 years of coaching, is fourth all-time amongst women's college hoops coaches. He has never not coached a team to a winning record.
The Lady Bulldogs open play on Nov. 15 against Alabama State at home and have a very difficult schedule that includes a trip to Piscataway, N.J., for a matchup with Rutgers.
The Lady Bulldogs also travel to Georgia Tech, Virginia, Alabama-Birmingham and Southeastern Conference power Tennessee.
Georgia returns three starters - Ashley Houts, Angela Puleo and Angel Robinson - from last years team and four other letter winners from a team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament and saw the graduation of Tasha Humphrey.
