Forgive the Georgia women's soccer team for liking the Southeastern Conference. It has been good to them.

The Bulldogs (7-8-1, 5-2-1 SEC) rattled off two road wins against SEC foes this weekend to keep climbing up the SEC East standings.

Georgia defeated Mississippi State 1-0 Friday evening before claiming a 1-0 double overtime victory over Ole Miss Sunday afternoon.

"I'm elated for our players," head coach Patrick Baker said. "The most important thing is we got two shutouts and two wins."

After starting the season with a 2-7-1 mark, the Bulldogs looked dead and buried after the first 10 games. However, a renaissance of late in the SEC has the team looking at the season from a new perspective.

Since losing to Florida Sept. 26, the Bulldogs have won five of the last six games, the only blemish a tough 2-1 loss to LSU.

Sunday's win over Ole Miss moved the Bulldogs to within striking distance of the .500 mark and gave Georgia a precious win over a team it had not beaten in regular season play in more than five years. The Bulldogs last defeated Ole Miss during the regular season Oct. 3, 2003.

With Ole Miss outshooting Georgia throughout the contest, the Bulldog defense remained resolute until freshman midfielder Jamie Pollock buried the golden goal to win the game 5:02 into the second overtime period. The goal was Pollock's second of the year.

"[When Pollock scored,] it was like an explosion of fireworks," Baker said. "We went crazy."

Friday's game against Mississippi State saw Georgia dominate in possession and shots, but the team had problems breaking through Mississippi State's stubborn defense.

Twenty-nine shots later, Georgia took the lead in the 77th minute when sophomore midfielder Mariah Krase's pass found junior midfielder Lauren Glancy.

Glancy wasted no time in scoring her first goal of the season to put Georgia up 1-0.

"We managed the game really well," Baker said. "Players stepped in and did their part.
