JIM MARTIN
DEMOCRATSTUDENT LOANS
Only 55 percent of Georgia's high school graduates who are ready for college or technical school actually attend, and too many of them have to drop out for financial reasons once they get there. We must expand the federal loan and grant programs to make sure that cost is not a barrier to a college degree.
ECONOMY
We need to be focused on making the economy work for the middle class again. This means closing the corporate tax loopholes that have shipped Georgia's jobs overseas, providing real tax relief for middle class Georgia.
IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN
The Congress and the President should instruct our military commanders on the ground to begin implementing a plan to withdraw our troops from Iraq in a manner which ensures their safety and gives the Iraqi people the opportunity to stand up on their own two feet.
HEALTH CARE
Every American should have access to quality, affordable health care, including the 1.6 million Georgians currently without it. I support private-public partnerships which would allow people to choose their doctors and allowing the government to negotiate over the price of prescription drugs.
ENERGY
We need to crack down on oil speculation and focus on the research and development of alternative fuels such as wind, solar and biomass. And government should not be favoring any one technology over the other.
SAXBY CHAMBLISS
REPUBLICAN INCUMBENTSTUDENT LOANS
I have been supportive of legislation to increase the maximum available Pell grant from $4,310 to $5,400 for academic year 2008-09. I have also been supportive of legislation that would simplify the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form.
ECONOMY
To strengthen our economy in the long-term we must allow the American taxpayers to keep more of their own money. I am the Senate sponsor of the Fair Tax that would eliminate the IRS and replace it with a national consumption based tax - that way you choose how much you pay in taxes.
IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN
My vision for success in Iraq is a state that can govern itself and provide for its own security. Today Iraq is much closer to fulfilling this vision than it was in 2002. As troops rotate out of Iraq, additional troops will become available for Afghanistan. This is necessary to establish security across Afghanistan.
HEALTH CARE
I do not believe a government-run health care system is the answer. Four major components that should be included in health care reform are prevention, providing tax credits or deductions, creating a national market for health insurance and creating transparent health care costs and services.
ENERGY
Domestic production is a critical component to solve the energy crisis in America, but we must also have a nuclear energy renaissance, advances in coal-to-liquids technology and serious commitment to alternative and renewable fuels and infrastructure.

Sorry, I just can never forgive Saxby for that ad he ran against Max Cleland in 2002, associating a triple amputee war hero to terrorists. Even John McCain said it was one of the worst ads in history. (Continued…)
