Univ. should recognize Veterans Day
I am appalled that the University grants us the day off for the Georgia-Florida game, but does not give us Veterans Day off.It is a federal holiday yet we go to class.
As a veteran myself, I find it disrespectful to me and all of my fellow veterans that this holiday is overlooked.
The veterans at this University and in this country have sacrificed blood, sweat, tears and a lot of time as an effort to help keep this nation free.
We deserve a day of appreciation for these sacrifices.
If we can be given a day to go party in Florida, we surely can be given a day to remember all of those selfless sacrifices.

Monday article 'irresponsible'
This letter is written in response to Monday's front page article, "Food Services firings raise eyebrows."I think it was irresponsible for The Red & Black to publish an article of such magnitude with what seems to be so much speculation.
The article implies that 12 black employees were fired and replaced by white employees.
However, there is no proof that this is in any way factual.
These accusations of racism have libeled both the good name of an establishment and Manager Bryan Varin.
After reading this article, I think it was both prematurely published and completely biased.
Hopefully, The Red & Black will get the whole story before publishing such an important story in the paper.

R&B disregarded national holiday
I was very disappointed in The Red & Black on Tuesday.Veterans Day is a unique national holiday in that it recognizes all who have served in the U.S. military both living and deceased.
While the new student organization office space is very exciting and I'm sure every student wants to know about which candidates their professors gave money to, these non-time-specific issues could easily have been covered tomorrow or moved to a back page to give the men and women who have served and who are currently serving our country some recognition.
We are so fortunate to live in a nation where men and women volunteer to protect our freedoms, and I believe these sacrifices deserved recognition on the front page of our student newspaper.
The Red & Black had the opportunity to give students cause to reflect for just a moment on the sacrifices of our nation's armed forces, but instead their coverage demonstrates they thought athletics and politics were more important.

Jennifer Cross and Kristin Bernhard make great points; and, I completely agree. I would also like to note that not since the Herty Drive parking lot was replaced with the fountain and green space, does the University have an "official" flag pole for displaying the American Flag. (Continued…)

Kristin, do you think your continual support of sending troops off to die for stupid reasons is a bit anti-troop? I think so.

I agree with Jennifer Cross. Veteran's day is observed by many universities nationwide, and it is a shame that special recognition was given to a football game rather than the men and women who have sacrificed their lives, health, and safety for this great nation. (Continued…)
