"I still haven't made a decision," Owens said. "It's a tough decision."
Owens tore his ACL against Georgia Southern in the season-opener and has been sidelined ever since. This was supposed to be Owens' final season as a senior, but his injury makes him eligible for a medical redshirt.
Owens said Atkins' decision does affect his decision, at least for the time being.
"With him coming back, it's like, OK, we know we're going to be good again next year on the D-line," Owens said. "It does help my decision a little.
Owens added when he went down with his knee injury, Atkins told him the two of them and Kade Weston could play one final year together.
"The first time I got hurt, he said, 'Oh, now we can be the three amigos - me, him and Kade. It does affect my decision but who knows. Right now I'm just trying to get healthy and get my knee right."
Scout team helps prepare for Tech
Georgia's scout team began giving its defense looks at what Georgia Tech's flexbone option offense may bring next Saturday. However, head coach Mark Richt isn't sure the scout team will be able to provide a perfect look at what's been dubbed "the perfect option."
"It'll be impossible to do it the way they do it," Richt said. "They'll get better but today was not real pretty."
Freshman safety Bacarri Rambo was playing the role of Georgia Tech quarterback Josh Nesbitt in the offense, as Rambo has fit the bill as Georgia's scout team quarterback for most of the mobile quarterbacks the Bulldogs have faced.
"If that was a system he was there to run I think Bacarri could run it well as a quarterback," Richt said. "He's a very talented ball handler, runner and passer. He's not a bad quarterback."
