University employees must watch four presentations on information security by next week, but some employees say they haven't found the programs useful.

"It's information you already know," said Evan Johnson, a sophomore from Sandersville and student maintenance assistant for University Housing.

All employees must complete the modules - even student workers at Campus Transit or Food Services who may not use computers or have access to secure information.

At Campus Transit, announcements have been posted and reminder e-mails have been sent to all employees, said Ron Hamlin, director of Campus Transit.

More than 50 percent of all Campus Transit employees have completed SecureUGA, an information security initiative that aims to make users more aware of their

security responsibilities on the Internet as a part of the University.

All employees must complete the modules by Sunday Nov. 30, said Bert DeSimone, communications officer for Enterprise Information Technology Services.

"The numbers [of completion] are approaching 70 percent of all employees, that includes student workers," DeSimone said.

The modules include: Your Role in SecureUGA, Security in the Workplace, What is Sensitive Data? and Securing Portable Electronic Devices.

The information was aimed at the most common denominator, DeSimone said.

If employees do not complete the modules before the deadline, it is up to their individual supervisor as to what actions to take.

"There is an expectation that has been set at the provost level," he said.

In the future, EITS will require all of the University's employees to complete all nine modules.

Students aren't required to complete the nine lessons yet, but EITS is considering the idea, DeSimone said.
