It takes a lot to be a supermodel. They don't call them "super" for nothing.

The amount of work and dedication that goes into the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show airing tonight on CBS is simply mind-boggling.

Every supermodel prepares all year for the event because, no, not just any "regular" model gets to be a part of the occasion.

It may seem like all models focus on the "outer" or physical side of their appearance, but Victoria's Secret - always the pioneering entity in the fashion world - is, well, something else.

What strides do Victoria's women take to prepare for the big night? Prerequisites include physical perfection, mental fragility, the ability to walk and a crazy exotic name - Selita, Behati and Doutzen are actual examples of this year's contenders.

Also, models with allergies need not apply - well over 96 percent of what is worn in the fashion show contains peanuts and/or red dye No. 5.

With all of these restrictions on who exactly is "angel" material, clearly only the best of the best people are accepted.

Over the years, the show has transformed from plain runway to an elaborate holiday concert celebration that happens to feature sparkling underwear.

Some people believe the show to be misogynistic and sexist, but who wouldn't want to be swept into a fantastical world where the women are beautiful and their outfits are edible?

It is extravagant to say the least, and a recipe for disaster - a runway coated in slippery glitter, plus 6-foot waifs in staggering heels with their balance thrown off by a massive set of angel wings made from actual candy canes.

If a good laugh isn't enough of a reason to sway the crowds to tune in, perhaps the show can serve as inspiration for New Year's resolutions.

Usually, the stinging images of perfection will be just horrible enough that no average girl can look away, or help comparing herself to the unattainable angels.

No matter the motive for watching - negative or self-degrading - make sure to tune in, because the blinding beauty and skimpy lingerie only comes to network television once a year.
