Editorial biased toward Palestine, language unfair

(This letter is in response to Monday's Our Take, "Grab a Megaphone.")

This disgusting display of bias for the Palestinian and Hamas causes is unacceptable. Although all people are entitled to their opinion, I expect a non-partisan, non-biased newspaper to get my news sources from.

The fact that The Red & Black allowed a quote saying the Israelis were committing "genocide" is absolutely unacceptable. I cannot believe that you would run such a slanderous article about Israel and not run a counter argument.

Front page story partisan, biased

I am severely disappointed with both the tone and the content of Monday's front page story, "Calling for Justice." What is going on in the Gaza Strip is a heated situation, but the coverage from The Red & Black only presents one narrow opinion, making no attempt to balance different viewpoints.

The author fails to explain Hamas forced Israel to act when it broke the cease-fire and began launching rockets into Southern Israel.

Since 2000, more than 8,000 rockets have been launched at Southern Israel. No one should live under the threat of such attacks each night.

The quotes used in this article are inflammatory, outlandish and misrepresent what is happening in the Middle East.

The Israeli Defense Force is neither a war machine nor is it committing genocide. It is attempting to combat a terrorist organization that uses women as human shields, initiates fights from schools, hides top leaders in hospitals and stores rockets in homes.

Israel wants peace in the Gaza Strip and past actions have shown they are willing to take any step necessary. News stories such as this misrepresent the conflict and should run on the Opinions page.

Now I support Israel, but its a sad sight that my argument is being presented by a freshman who seems chronically misinformed and the virginal slob known as Greg Wilson. (Continued…)
