Swafford, Bulldog golfers win Puerto Rico Classic

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Enjoying high temperatures and low numbers, the No. 1-ranked Georgia men¹s golf team won the Puerto Rico Classic on Sunday as junior Hudson Swafford claimed co-medalist honors.
With snow pelting Athens on Sunday, the Bulldogs played in 80-degree temperatures and responded with a 15-under-par 273 in the final round to wind up at 38-under 826. The final score is the third-best figure in school history and gave the Bulldogs a 12-shot victory over Clemson.
Senior Brian Harman paced the Bulldogs in the final round with a 6-under 66. Swafford and sophomore Russell Henley each added a 5-under 67, while sophomore Harris English had a 1-over 73 and senior Michael Green signed for a 2-over 74.
Swafford finished as the co-medalist (along with Texas' Dylan Fritelli) at 12-under 204 as he won his first collegiate tournament. Henley and Harman placed in a tie for third at 10-under 206, while English tied for 12th at 6-under 211 and Green came in tied for 27th at 1-over 217.
"I am very proud of the guys for the way they played this weekend," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "Coming out of the layoff between the fall and the spring, you worry about a team being rusty. But these guys have been working hard and did a good job of picking up where we left off."
The Puerto Rico Classic victory gives the Bulldogs three straight wins dating back to the fall when they claimed the Brickyard Championship and the Isleworth Invitational.
Georgia will return to action March 13-15 at the Las Vegas Intercollegiate.
