Police incident report

A University student and friend were arrested Feb. 27 and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

According to the Athens-Clarke County police report:

A search warrant for the residence of University student Daniel Richard Gower was served by three officers on Feb. 27 at 2 p.m.

Upon entering the residence, the police smelled marijuana and found smoking devices.

Gower and Athens Tech student Christopher Tripp Stevens were found and spread prone on the floor. They were questioned separately.

One officer took a large amount of money from Gower's pocket for evidence, and Gower admitted to selling marijuana from his residence to friends and fraternity brothers.

Stevens said Gower had been selling marijuana for about six months.

Stevens said he gave Gower a ride home from class, at which time Gower invited Stevens into his residence to smoke marijuana. The two were smoking from a bong when the police arrived, Stevens said.

Since Stevens did not have identification on person, he gave police permission to search his truck where his license was.

During the search, police found a bag of marijuana and a black digital scale in the driver's side door. Stevens said Gower gave him the items when he got in the truck as a passenger.

Neither Stevens nor Gower could be reached for interviews Tuesday night.

Sounds like something out of a Cheech and Chong movie.

I agree with crazy...
How is it this story gets its own headline and story. No violence and no victims but yet this is the big news. Isn't interesting that none of the weed was weighed or any of money counted(check report)? Who's to say it all got back to the police station. (Continued…)

Whether or not the crime is victim-less, it is still a crime. It's illegal and deserves more than a slap on the wrist and a look the other way.

How much marijuana did they find? First time offenders?

Without knowing the above information, it's a little hard to judge the situation. BUT I must say that from the sounds of it, the ACC police department just wasted plenty of time and resources arresting these non-violent offenders and ruining their lives forever. (Continued…)

We are trying to change the laws, but few people are willing to spend the time to participate. Go to the Ga NORML meeting on Thurs. and help us get something done. (Continued…)
