Tampa tight end Orson Charles, ranked as the No. 7 tight end in the country by Rivals.com, finally made a commitment Friday - and it was with the Bulldogs.
Charles, has waffled back and forth since before national signing day at the beginning of February, but finally chose Georgia over Tennessee and Southern Cal Friday afternoon.
"We're thrilled to have Orson join our signing class," said head coach Mark Richt
"He comes from a state championship high
school team coached by Robert Weiner who has done an outstanding job developing that program. It's a team that knows how to win and I'm sure Orson will come in and be ready to compete."
Charles played on the same Plant High School team that brought quarterback Aaron Murray, already in Athens as an early enrollee, to Georgia. He pushes Georgia's 2009 signing class to 20.
The Bulldogs are renowned for sending tight ends to the NFL, but Charles should have a chance to contend for a starting position immediately with sub-par tight end play of late.
Charles charted 75 receptions for 1,440 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior.
