The 11th-ranked Georgia softball team (12-1) will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., this weekend to participate in the Easton SEC/Pac-10/Big 12 Challenge.

The Bulldogs will face Baylor (17-3) on Friday afternoon and Saturday night and No. 3 Washington (17-0) on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Following last weekend's cancellation of the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga., the Bulldogs will be playing for the first time since Feb. 22.

"We were disappointed that we didn't get a chance to play last weekend," head coach Lu Harris-Champer said, "but it is what it is…we just can't wait to get out there and play [this weekend]."

Awaiting the Bulldogs this weekend will be the highest-ranked team the Bulldogs have faced all season in Washington as well as a Baylor team that has spent time in the top 25 this year.

"We're looking forward to it," Harris-Champer said when asked about the level of competition the Bulldogs will face this weekend, "we want to see how we stack up against the [best] competition…that's why you play the games."

The Bulldogs enter this weekend riding a nine-game winning streak and despite not playing last week, were able to move up three spots in the latest USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll to No. 11.

Thanks in large part to the run production of sophomore third baseman Alisa Goler and the consistency from senior pitcher Christie Hamilton, Georgia looks to solidify itself as a serious contender in the SEC in 2009.

"It's gonna be a weekend of great softball at a great venue," Harris-Champer said, "[and] it will prepare us for the SEC schedule."

The Bulldogs will open SEC play over Spring Break when they travel to Gainesville, Fla. to take on the 2nd-ranked Florida Gators in a double-header on March 11th.
