The Georgia bullpen threw 5.2 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits as the Bulldogs completed a sweep of Quinnipiac with a 7-2 win Sunday at Foley Field.

Georgia, ranked as high as No. 2 by Collegiate Baseball, improved to 12-0 and is one game shy of tying the longest winning streak in the David Perno era.

Jeff Walters (1-0) entered the game in the fourth with one out and runners at first and second, and only allowed one baserunner over the next 2.2 innings to pick up the win. Will Harvil pitched a perfect seventh, and Michael Palazzone worked the final two innings for the Bulldogs.

Rich Poythress went 4-for-4 with a double to lead Georgia offensively, and Bryce Massanari and Michael Demperio added two hits apiece.

"They got off to a great start, and it was good to see what we would do if we fell behind," Perno said. "We just couldn't get the right hit at the right time at the beginning of the game, but we are in a great position and off to a good start. We just need to continue to improve defensively."

Bryn Doyle hit a two-run homer in the second to give the Bobcats (0-6) a 2-0 lead, and Georgia trailed for the first time since the sixth inning against Youngstown State Feb. 22. The Bulldogs trailed at the end of the inning for the first time all season, snapping a string of 100 innings without being behind.

The Bulldogs got on the board in the third inning as Demperio doubled and scored on two-out single by Rich Poythress.

Joey Lewis tied the game with a solo home run to lead off the fourth, and Georgia took the lead with four runs in the fifth. Johnathan Taylor led off with a walk, then singles by Demperio and Colby May combined with a Quinnipiac error gave the Bulldogs a 4-2 lead. After a single by Poythress, Chase Davidson drove in a run to make it 5-2, and a bunt single by Miles Starr scored Poythress to give Georgia a 6-2 lead.

Colby May scored on a Massanari single in the sixth for Georgia's final run of the game.

Walters came in for starter Jason Leaver, who gave up two runs on two hits in 3.1 innings.

Mike Oskandy (0-2) allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits in 6.0 innings to take the loss for the Bobcats.

Georgia plays host to Lemoyne Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Wednesday at 5 p.m. before traveling to Alabama for the SEC opener.

I wish the baseball team would teach the football team how to go 12-0
