Second-ranked Georgia registered a 6-1 win over Mississippi State here Sunday to improve to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in the Southeastern Conference.

Georgia claimed the doubles point and five singles matches for the win over 57th-ranked MSU (8-2, 0-2 SEC). With the latest win, Georgia improved to 31-0 all-time against MSU. Also, the Bulldogs have faced 10 straight ranked opponents already this season and are 9-1 in those contests.

"I thought we played better doubles today, and overall it was a good match for us and we're glad to be 2-0 in the SEC," said Georgia coach Jeff Wallace. "Lara (Fakhoury) got in the lineup for us and played very well in singles and doubles."

Georgia's top tandem of freshman Chelsey Gullickson and Nadja Gilchrist posted a quick 8-2 win over Natalia Mayuk and Olesya Tsigvintseva. The No. 3 Bulldog tandem of Yvette Hyndman and Lara Fakhoury clinched the point with an 8-3 win over Radka Ferancova and Daniela Juskova. It was the first time this season that this Georgia combination played together. MSU managed to win at No. 2 as Martina Banikova and Elna de Villiers edged Monika Dancevic and Cameron Ellis 8-6.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick start in singles in the lower part of the lineup. Fakhoury dispatched Valeriya Makarycheva 6-0,6-1 at No. 6. Gilchrist, ranked 51st nationally, breezed past de Villiers 6-0,6-2 at No. 4 to make it 3-0. Then, junior Naoko Ueshima clinched the match for the Bulldogs with a 6-1,6-2 victory over Mayuk at No. 5. At the top of the lineup, sixth-ranked Gullickson and 43rd-ranked Hyndman won the first set at No. 1 and 2 while MSU's Ferancova took the first set over 77th-ranked Dancevic in a tiebreaker at No. 3. Gullickson defeated Banikova 6-2,6-3 to extend Georgia's advantage to 5-0. Minutes later, Hyndman gave the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead with a 7-5,6-1 decision over Tsigvintseva. MSU notched its lone point at No. 3 where Ferancova upset Dancevic 7-6(2),6-4.

"I've been working hard on a lot of little things and feel like I've improved," said Fakhoury. "It was nice to get to play doubles with Yvette, it was fun to win that match and in singles too."

Georgia now goes on the road for its next three SEC matches. The Bulldogs will be in action again Friday at Florida.
