Four Bulldogs head to NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships
Issue date: 3/13/09 Section: Sports
Four Georgia sprinters have qualified in three events and will make the trip Thursday to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas, today and Saturday.
Senior Justin Gaymon is scheduled to be the first Bulldog to compete as he runs in the 400-meter dash prelims at 6:15 p.m. EDT on Friday. Freshman Torrin Lawrence will be up next with the 200 prelims at 7:45 p.m. and his event's finals at 9:10 p.m.
The finals for the 400 are set for 6:50 p.m. on Saturday while senior Michael Proctor and freshman Phillip Adams will join Gaymon and Lawrence in the 4x400 relay finals at 8:25 p.m.
"We believe we have a great chance of scoring some points with the four guys we have going," said head coach Wayne Norton. "For Torrin, it's a situation where he has been a guy ranked really high all season and now is his opportunity to step across the line from the projections to actually accomplishing a goal of his. He wants a championship and I believe he has a great chance in the 200 as long as he keeps doing the things he has been doing all season long. As far as the relay goes, this team believes in themselves. They have done well when going head-to-head with the competition and that is one of the keys to having success in this event."
