For the second time this season, the Georgia gymnastics team will head to Raleigh, N.C., for a meet, but this time a berth in the NCAA Championships will be on the line.
The top-ranked Gym Dogs head to the site of their worst meet of the season as the No. 1 seed in the Southeast Regional, which will be held on Saturday, April 4 at 6 p.m.
No. 12 Penn State, No. 13 Nebraska, No. 21 West Virginia, No. 29 North Carolina State and No. 30 North Carolina will be the other participants, with the top two earning a trip to the championships in Lincoln, Neb., on April 16-18. The Gym Dogs are coming off a disappointing second place finish at the SEC Championships in Nashville, Tenn., on Saturday and are eager to get back on the floor.
Georgia is aiming to win its fifth straight NCAA title and 10th overall title, which would surpass Utah for most all-time in Yoculan's final season as head coach.
Baseball returns to No. 1 in poll
After a one-week hiatus, the Georgia baseball team reassumed the top spot in Collegiate Baseball's national poll.
The No. 1 Diamond Dogs (19-2, 4-2 SEC) went 4-0 last week with a win over a feisty Georgia State team in Panthersville and completed a home sweep of Mississippi State. Georgia is a school-record 14-0 at home this season and set a single-game home attendance record Saturday.
Georgia reclaimed top billing after North Carolina dropped to fifth after losing two of three games to Duke.
The Dogs are second in the SEC in batting average (.337) and first in team ERA (3.27), and this week face their toughest test of the season when they travel to No. 3 Georgia Tech (16-2, 6-1 ACC) Wednesday.
In addition to Georgia, three other SEC rivals grace the top 15: No. 5 LSU, No. 9 Arkansas and No. 14 Ole Miss.
Florida (No. 23), Alabama (No. 26) and South Carolina (No. 28) are also ranked in the top 30.
