Former Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford reportedly scored a 38 on the Wonderlic test at the NFL Combine last month, higher than any other QB.

After impressing with his workout at Georgia's Pro Day last week, news has come out that Stafford, regarded as the potential No. 1 overall pick in next month's NFL draft, impressed again on the Wonderlic, a problem-solving assessment with 50 questions and a 12-minute limit. USC's Mark Sanchez reportedly scored a 28, while Kansas State's Josh Freeman charted a 27.

The Ann Arbor News also reported Monday that the Detroit Lions are in contract talks with a number of candidates for their No. 1 overall pick in the draft, and Stafford presumably is one. The Lions, who set a record for futility with an 0-16 season in 2008, say they want to ink a contract prior to the April 25 draft to avoid the possibility of a holdout during training camp.

Stafford has made it clear he wants to play for Detroit: "I think it would be an honor to be picked No. 1, and I also want to get a chance to turn something around," he said after Georgia's Pro Day. "[Detroit] would be a heck of a place for me to do it."
