Missouri's Mike Anderson will not be the next basketball coach at Georgia.

PowerMizzou.com, the Rivals.com affiliate that covers Missouri sports, and ESPN reported Anderson signed a seven-year contract extension, ranging from $1.3 million to $1.6 million, depending on sources.

"We are excited coach Anderson is going to be at the University of Missouri for a long time," Missouri athletics director Mike Alden said in a release. "He's done a tremendous job rebuilding our basketball tradition and is poised to lead our program to new heights in the coming years."

Anderson had been targeted by Georgia as its next basketball coach, and sources told ESPN that Anderson turned down Georgia's offer of $2.1 million.

"We have always appreciated the commitment Mike Alden and his staff have had toward Missouri basketball, and I am excited to remain here at Missouri," Anderson said in the same news release. "We are looking forward to the future of this program and can't wait to continue building on the success of this past season."

Anderson was believed to be in contention for the Memphis job before inking his new deal at Missouri, as former Memphis coach John Calipari left the Tigers' program to take over Kentucky for an unprecedented $31.65 million over eight years.

Anderson, who is 65-35 in three seasons at Missouri, led the Tigers to a record 31 wins this year, advancing to the Elite Eight, losing 82-75 to Connecticut Saturday.

Rumors circulating are that Georgia will now turn their attention to Miami basketball coach Frank Haith and Clemson's Oliver Purnell.

Well, well, well. Look where we stand now. Alabama knew who they wanted and got him. Kentucky knew who they wanted and got him. We knew who we wanted, and came up empty handed. (Continued…)
