The third-ranked Georgia men's tennis team registered a 5-2 win over 27th-ranked Auburn Friday in front of a season-high crowd of 539 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

With the latest victory, the Bulldogs (17-2, 6-1 SEC) extended their home winning streak to 58 matches. Also, sophomore Javier Garrapiz won his 16th straight match, and it clinched the win, posting a 3-6,6-3,6-2 decision over Tim Puetz at No. 2. He is now 28-6 on the year. The Tigers dropped to 10-7 overall and 3-4 in the SEC.

"Tim was hitting on all cylinders in the first set but Javier is a very resourceful player who finds a way to win," said Georgia coach Manuel Diaz. "He doesn't get down and fights for every point."

Georgia claimed a 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles matches. The first to finish was the No. 3 team of Borja Malo and Christian Vitulli as they posted an 8-2 win over Milan Krnjetin and Michel Monteiro. Then, the No. 2 team of Garrapiz and Drake Bernstein clinched the point for the Bulldogs with an 8-5 victory over Lukas Marsoun and Alexander Stamchev. The closest contest came in the feature match where Georgia's ninth-ranked duo of Jamie Hunt and Nate Schnugg defeated Auburn's 11th-ranked tandem of Puetz and Alexey Tsyrenov 8-6.

Georgia took the first set in five of the six matches including Schnugg and Hunt winning tiebreakers. Garrapiz was the exception. Vitulli made it 2-0 Bulldogs with a 6-3,7-6(4) win over Alex Petropoulos in the No. 6 match. Bernstein gave Georgia a 3-0 advantage after a 6-3,6-4 win over Krnjetin at No. 5. Garrapiz's three-set win made it 4-0. Varela outlasted Stamchev in the No. 5 match, winning 6-3,3-6,6-3 for a 5-0 margin.

Auburn notched its two wins by winning super tiebreakers in matches. At No. 1, 59th-ranked Tysrenov earned a win over ninth-ranked Schnugg. He won 6-7,6-4,1-0(10-3). Schnugg dropped to 30-10 on the year and 2-1 in super tiebreakers. At No. 3, Marsoun edged Hunt 6-7(5),7-6(6),1-0(10-6). Coming in to the match, Georgia was 7-0 in super tiebreakers.

"Overall, it was another great victory for the team and it was tough to lose those last two matches," Diaz added. "Nate and Jamie went up against a couple of guys who were playing their best tennis, and they got the victory over them."

Georgia plays host to 15th-ranked Alabama Sunday at 2 p.m. The Crimson Tide (17-4, 5-2 SEC) fell 4-2 to fourth-ranked Tennessee on Friday.
