No. 6 Georgia softball could not figure out Kelsi Dunne and No. 4 Alabama.
Dunne (16-1), a sophomore pitcher for Alabama, was dominant in the entire weekend series sweep over the high-powered Bulldogs (25-7, 7-5 SEC). Dunne won all three games for Alabama (31-6, 10-4 SEC) - pitching 13 innings while allowing only seven hits and one earned run.
Senior pitcher Christie Hamilton (12-5) lost two games in the series despite pitching well.
Hamilton pitched 13.2 innings, allowing only four earned runs to the Alabama offense, but received minimal run support in both outings. Sophomore Sarah McCloud was credited with the other loss in the first game.
In Game 1, Alabama used a big seven-run fifth inning to beat the Bulldogs 9-1 in five innings on a run rule.
The Crimson Tide managed seven hits and six walks off McCloud (10-2) in the contest - by far her roughest outing of the season. Georgia amassed only two hits off Dunne in the game, one of those a solo home run by first baseman Brianna Hesson.
In Game 2, the Bulldogs took Alabama into extra innings with a 2-2 tie before relenting on a game-winning RBI in the bottom of the eighth, with Alabama winning 3-2.
Dunne was once again dominant in Game 3, pitching a complete game shutout and striking out 10 batters in the 2-0 victory for Alabama.
Hesson was one of the few bright spots on offense in the series, going 4-for-5 with a double and two home runs. Georgia, one of the highest scoring offenses in the nation, went just 14-for-69 (.203) in the three games.
Six of Georgia's seven losses this year have come at the hands of top-5 opponents (Washington, Florida, Alabama), with the only other loss coming to Oregon State in the fourth game of the season.
