Fresh off a demolition of the Southeast Regional, the Georgia gymnastics team has been ranked the No. 1 overall team at the NCAA Championships held in Lincoln, Neb., April 16-18.
The Gym Dogs combined regional qualifying score of 197.255, added to their score of 197.770 last weekend gave them a score of 394.955 tops in the country.
Georgia will compete in the afternoon session and on the same rotation it had last Saturday. Its first event will be floor and will
conclude with beam.
"I feel great about this rotation," Georgia coach Suzanne Yoculan said in a press release. "Ending on beam is great for us, and we love to start a meet out on a go-for-it type event like floor or vault. For us, competing at the end of the meet makes it so much more fun."
Also competing in Georgia's session will be Stanford, Penn State, Oklahoma, LSU and Florida. UCLA, Utah, Illinois, Oregon State, Alabama and Arkansas will compete in the evening session.
The Gym Dogs have met with three of the teams in their session (Penn State, LSU, Florida) already this season, all three wins and headlined by a nation-best 198.2 against the Gators. They also topped UCLA, Utah, Alabama and Arkansas in the regular season before the Crimson Tide ended their undefeated season at the SEC Championships two weeks ago.
The top three teams for each session will compete for the team championship on April 17 and the individual championships will be held on April 18.
Georgia will be going for its fifth straight national title, and 10th overall.
Baseball drops from top spot
The Georgia baseball team's two-week run as the top team in the country ended Monday after losing two of three games to LSU this past weekend.
The Diamond Dogs dropped to No. 5, replaced in the top spot by Arkansas, which comes to Athens April 17-19. LSU, previously No. 5, only moved up one spot to No. 4, despite beating Georgia twice on the road.
Ole Miss (No. 15) and Florida (No. 22) are the only other SEC teams ranked in the top 30.
