Women's club volleyball wins Division II national championship

Georgia's women's club volleyball team captured a national championship this weekend at the 2009 National Campus Championship Series Volleyball Club Championships.

Georgia defeated Ohio University in the championship in three sets - 25-22, 25-27, 16-14.

Georgia, a member of Division II, won the Gold bracket, the highest level of play in that division of club members. The tournament was held in Kansas City, Mo. and concluded Saturday.

Georgia opened the first round and beat Central Florida 25-16, 12-25, 15-8. It followed up that win with a 25-20, 26-24 victory over Loyola in the second round.

In the semifinals, Georgia faced Indiana and dropped the first set for the first time in the tournament. However, Georgia rallied to defeat Indiana 20-25, 25-21, 15-10 - advancing to the championship.
