Read all about it!

Don't worry - missing Red & Black bins are being replaced around campus.

Oh where, oh where have our little bins gone?

We've received your phone calls and e-mails, and The Red & Black wants to assure our readers that we aren't going anywhere.

On March 25, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution announced it was cutting circulation to Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties. With that announcement came a few caveats and concerns, because the AJC has such a large and prominent role on newspaper distribution in general.

What about the Collegiate Readership Program? The AJC will no longer participate, but the program will not lose The New York Times (which is currently printed at the AJC) because The Athens Banner-Herald will take over printing it every day.

The AJC also maintained the big black bins that housed The Red & Black, The Athens Banner-Herald and occasionally other publications such as Rough Draft and Athens Guard Dawg. Because the AJC will no longer deliver to Athens, it will no longer maintain the bins.

But no worries. New bins - also black, but smaller than the old ones - are being installed as you read this institutional. They will be maintained by The Athens Banner-Herald.

As a college newspaper, we are very lucky to only slightly feel the effects of the economy. Because we have the closest coverage of the University community, we will always be here - recession or economic upturn.

But while we're on the subject of our bins, we'd like to take this opportunity to make sure we are reaching our readers adequately.

Is your walk to class lacking the ritual of picking up a Red & Black?

Where would you like to see a bin on campus?

The University regulates where we can and cannot establish our bins on campus - and we are not permitted to put them inside University buildings. But walking patterns change over the years, and we want to make sure our bins are in convenient locations for everyone.

Unless you tell us, we won't know where to move them.
