AUBURN, Ala. - The Georgia softball team (33-8, 14-6 SEC) was dominant this weekend during a three-game sweep of the Auburn Tigers (27-20, 7-13 SEC).
The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers by a combined score of 29-8 over the threegame series and remain in second place behind Florida in the SEC Eastern Division standings. In the Sunday afternoon series finale, the Bulldogs defeated Auburn 12-6.
Despite giving up five earned runs over four innings of work, senior pitcher Christie Hamilton notched her 17th win of the season.
Sophomore pitcher Sarah McCloud earned her first career save, pitching three innings of scoreless ball while surrendering just three hits and one walk. The Bulldogs relied on the long ball to surge past the Tigers, hitting three home runs off Auburn starter Anna Thompson.
Freshman designated player Tori Moody led the way at the plate for Georgia following her fourth inning grand slam and five total RBIs - Moody led the Bulldogs with nine RBIs for the series.
Freshman catcher Kristyn Sandberg hit her third home run of the weekend while sophomore first baseman Brianna Hesson also went yard to clinch the series sweep.
In the night cap of Saturday's double-header, Hamilton earned her sixth shutout of the season in the Bulldogs' 10-0 win. Sophomore center fielder Taylor Schlopy belted her 10th home run of the season and batted in three runs. In Game 1, McCloud earned her 13th win after giving up just two runs and three hits in a 7-2 Bulldog victory.
"When runners get on, I just try to keep the ball down and make them get groundouts and popouts," McCloud said.
Sophomore third baseman Alisa Goler inched closer to Bulldog history after hitting her 15th home run of the season, which is just one shy of the single season record at Georgia.
