On behalf The Red & Black's sports section, I feel the need to offer the Georgia equestrian team an apology.

Over the weekend, the Bulldogs went to Waco, Texas, battled the top competition in the sport's Varsity Equestrian National Championships, and won their second consecutive title.

The Red & Black did not have a story highlighting the achievement of this varsity team - which recruits the best riders in the country - in Monday's sports section. Georgia's equestrian team should be recognized for its achievement. There are few collegiate athletes who can claim a national championship, and for us to miss this achievement in a timely manner is regretful.

These scholarship athletes work hard, while maintaining academic standards. Their work deserves mention, especially Haylie Jayne, who won the individual national championship in the equitation over fences.

It's an exceptional feat and helps prove the Georgia athletics program is one of the best in the nation from top to bottom.

We regret not writing a story for Monday's edition and realize that while equestrian isn't a well-known sport, there are plenty of people on the University campus who care.

And in this apology, I must offer my own personal congratulations to the Georgia equestrian team. You earned this title, and I hope you are all still celebrating. You've made the Bulldog Nation proud.
