Georgia's track and field squad is doing its best to try and take over the nation this weekend.
The Bulldogs will split up to compete in their final road meets of the season. A large part of the team is travelling to Des Moines, Iowa, for the Drake Relays, while others head to Chula Vista, Calif., to participate in two other competitions - the UC-San Diego Triton Invitational and the Pumping Iron Discus Classic.
Head coach Wayne Norton stressed it is not uncommon in track for the team to split up for a variety of factors.
"We want to compete against the people who are going to make you be at your best," Norton said. "Different conditions make things more favorable for some events over others - they offer different opportunities for success."
The Bulldog throwers, one of the nation's top throwing teams, will be the minority of the squad that heads out to Chula Vista, which serves as host to one of the more prestigious and competitive throwing meets each season.
The Drake Relays in Des Moines is a prominent event in its own right, attracting thousands of spectators annually.
Star freshman Torrin Lawrence, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Men's South Region Track Athlete of the Year and All-American, is expected to be at full speed for the relays after being hampered with an injury for the majority of the outdoor season.
Georgia has earned 26 NCAA regional qualifying marks so far this outdoor season.
