Becky Stonecipher said she saw the Jeep parked in Gail and Michael Harsh's driveway between 2 and 3 p.m. Saturday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"We were here all day [Saturday] and we didn't see any jeep and it certainly didn't come down our driveway," Michael Harsh told The Red & Black in a telephone interview Tuesday afternoon.
Stonecipher gave the tip to police Sunday morning and told the Atlanta Journal-Constituion Tuesday morning police had yet to investigate her sighting.
But the police eventually followed up.
"[Police] have been here and asked about it," Harsh said. "But again, I don't think there was a red Jeep around here."
Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry wrote on the Athens Banner-Herald Web site: "We did examine this piece of property, as did ACCPD and FBI agents. There is no reason to suspect the fugitive is there. I figured this was the fastest way to let you know..."
Berry added: "The entire area has now been searched, no contact with the fugitive.
Sheriff Scott Berry"

I agree. In the ABH's article, it said she merely saw the Jeep Liberty driving by. If it was, in fact, parked in a driveway - did she exit her house, then check the tags?
If she's lying about this - it's wrong. (Continued…)

The police are very reluctant in all open cases to reveal any information that will make the fugitive realize exactly how close to being caught they are. (Continued…)

Sounds to me like "TED" needs to get his facts straight before he starts throwing around names, as well as Stephanie. It is the police departments JOB to check out every lead that they get. (Continued…)

Well, in afterthought, I have to admit... I should DIRECTLY have called the police department. That was not too brilliant of me. In contacting the neighbor first, probably about the most thoughtless thing I have ever done in my life, that was essentially throwing up a warning flag. (Continued…)

Just to clarify, the police should check every lead. Always. However, the only way this is effective is to investigate in a timely manner. I am not upset that my parent's home was searched. (Continued…)
