Men's tennis begins title defense as NCAA tourney kicks off

The fourth-ranked Georgia men's tennis team (22-3) faces S.C. State (14-7) for the first time in the NCAA first round today at 4 p.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

The rest of the field in Athens is Virginia Tech and UNC-Wilmington. The Bulldogs are 6-0 vs. Va. Tech and have never played UNC-Wilmington.

The Bulldogs own a 60-match home winning streak at the Magill Tennis Complex dating back to 2005.

The two-time defending NCAA Champions are making their 31st overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament,and the 2009 NCAA bid is the 26th straight for the Bulldogs.

Georgia's lineup features three players ranked in the ITA Top 75 and one doubles team in the top five.

Junior Nate Schnugg earned a bid to the NCAA Singles Championships plus one for the doubles with junior Jamie Hunt. Schnugg is a 9-16 seed for the singles while the Schnugg/Hunt team is seeded fourth.
