The road to Oklahoma City, Okla., and the Women's College World Series begins on May 15 as the Georgia softball team (39-10) travels to Chapel Hill, N.C., to take part in the regional round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

Joining the Bulldogs in the four-team regional will be Radford (40-13), Campbell (38-14), and the host team North Carolina (45-11).

The format for the regional round of the NCAA Tournament is double-elimination with one team emerging from the group of four and moving on to the Super Regionals.

Georgia enters the tournament as the No. 6 overall seed, but will have to make the road trip to Chapel Hill due to a failure to meet NCAA travel regulations.

An unfortunate break for Georgia to say the least, as going on the road has proven to be a challenge this season for the Bulldogs.

While the Bulldogs posted a 25-2 record at home, they were a less than stellar 14-8 on the road and will have to find a way to win outside of Athens if they hope to advance past the regional round.

The Bulldogs are all too familiar with the feeling of a first round exit following their disappointing loss to Kentucky in the opening round of the SEC Tournament last Thursday.

In order to avoid a second consecutive premature tournament exit, the Bulldog bats will need to heat up.

In the loss to Kentucky last week, Georgia was shutout and failed to provide senior pitcher Christie Hamilton with any run support.

The possible return of sophomore second baseman Megan Wiggins may help to bolster the Georgia lineup and supply the Bulldogs with a much needed offensive option alongside sophomores Alisa Goler and Taylor Schlopy.

According to head coach Lu Harris-Champer, Wiggins is progressing nicely but her status for the NCAA Tournament is still up in the air.

Georgia will be looking to advance to the Super Regionals for just the third time in school history and is aiming for its first ever trip to the Women's College World Series.
