Georgia softball players Alisa Goler and Taylor Schlopy were named Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-Region selections as announced by the NFCA on Wednesday.

Goler and Schlopy, selected to the Southeast All-Region team, were among 264 players from 121 different institutions to comprise the 10 regional teams. For Goler, it marks the second straight season in which she has been selected All-Region while it is the first All-Region honor for Schlopy. The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. The NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced Wednesday, May 27.

Goler, a native of Frankfort, Ill., is the only sophomore among the top 10 finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award. She was named a First-Team All-Southeastern Conference selection and ranks among the national leaders in several statistical categories including first in runs-batted in per game, first in slugging percentage, third in total home runs, fourth in home runs per game, sixth in batting average, ninth in on-base percentage and 10th in doubles per game.

She also ranks as the third toughest player to strikeout. In the SEC, Goler has climbed into the single-season conference record books for home runs and RBI. Her 20 home runs rank third and is just five shy of the league record while her 75 RBI also ranks third and is just four away from the conference's top mark.

Goler also stands poised to break into the SEC single-season top 10 for batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. Her current 1.007 slugging percentage would establish a new league record. In the Georgia record books, Goler has set three single-season records in 2009 and is primed to establish another five by the end of the season.

The single-season UGA records that Goler has already set this year include home runs (20), extra-base hits (37) and runs-batted in (75). She is also on pace to establish new single-season school records for batting average (.453), slugging percentage (1.007), walk-to-strikeout ratio (6.50) and toughest to strikeout (0.029 - 4 strikeouts/139 at-bats). Goler also has 140 total bases, which are just eight shy of Nicole Barber's school record 148 from 2003.

Schlopy, a native of West Hills, Calif., was also an All-SEC First Team selection, and she is currently batting .423 with 12 home runs and 36 RBI while leading the team with 32 walks and a .568 on-base percentage. Nationally, Schlopy ranks first in runs per game, fifth in on-base percentage, 13th in slugging percentage, 25th in batting average and 26th in walks per game.

On the base paths, Schlopy has stolen 18 bases in 19 attempts. She was recently named the SEC Player of the Week on May 4 following her performance at Arkansas in which she reached based in all eight plate appearances. As a leadoff batter in any inning this season, Schlopy is batting .563, slugging 1.167 and has an on-base percentage of .704, and she has scored 40 of her 61 runs after reaching in the leadoff role.

In the UGA record books, Schlopy is on pace to establish a new single-season record for on-base percentage. Schlopy was also named a CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection this year.
