Georgia swimming signee Megan Romano of Northeast High in St. Petersburg, Fla., will be recognized today as the Florida Female Swimmer of the Year, presented by the Pinch A Penny Pool, Patio and Spa company, in a ceremony at Romano's school.

During her senior season, Romano won the 2A 200 freestyle, the third straight year she has won the event, and the 2A 100 backstroke, the second time she has won the event in her career, in helping Northeast to a fifth-place finish at the state meet in November.

In her win in the 200 freestyle, Romano swam the fastest time in the state among the three state classifications with a 1:46.06, which bested the 2A field by more than three seconds. Her 100 backstroke time of 54.12 was the second-fastest in the event in Florida history. She also earned All-America status in both events.

In her career, Romano appeared in six individual events, winning all six of them. Romano was a member of the U.S. National Junior Team and won a gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle relay in 2008 at the Second FINA World Junior Championships in Mexico. She also qualified for six events at the 2008 Olympic Trials.

Georgia swimmer Chelsea Nauta was named the recipient of the award three times during her prep career at Tampa Prep. She won the award in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
