Soccer team grabs Clemson transfer
Issue date: 5/21/09 Section: Sports
Georgia soccer coach Patrick Baker announced Wednesday Clemson forward and Duluth native Sarah Jordan will transfer to Georgia and play for the Bulldog soccer program.
Jordan, who was named the 2007 Atlanta Journal Constitution Player of the Year and the AAA Player of the Year as a senior at Providence Christian Academy, spent the 2008 season recovering from injury and was medically redshirted by the Tigers last season. She will be eligible to play with the
program in the fall and will have four years of eligibility with the Bulldogs.
"We are excited to have Sarah join our soccer program here at the University of Georgia," Baker said. "We enjoyed watching Sarah play as a youth player for many years as she became one of the most heralded players in the 2008 recruiting class. Her injury has not allowed her to perform in the college environment just yet, but we will both be working hard to continue her improvement as a player."
"I'm really excited about being able to have the opportunity to become a part of Georgia's soccer program," Jordan said. "Coming back from an ACL injury, I can't wait to be put in an environment where I will immediately be challenged to play my best every day in practice and in games. The level of soccer that Coach Baker and his team maintain every day has helped it to become one of the most competitive soccer programs in the nation. I am just really grateful to become a Bulldog and excited to start the 2009 season."
Jordan was a four-year letterwinner at Providence Christian Academy under coach Jonny Williamson. She led her squad to a state championship in 2007, the same season in which she was named to the Gwinnett Daily Post Super Six and won the Golden Boot Award.
During her career at Providence Christian, Jordan totaled 120 goals, including 54 during the 2006 season, tying for the most goals in a season in the state of Georgia. She played club soccer for GSA Phoenix Red '90 and coach Judson Hamby. She is an elementary education major and her mother,
Jenny, played volleyball at Mississippi from 1980-1984.
Jordan will join Georgia's five incoming freshmen, Susannah Dennis, Laura Eddy, Christina Kyker, Rebekah Perry and Jordan Young, on campus this fall.
