Softball falls to Washington 9-3 in nightcap, concludes World Series

Georgia finishes its 2009 season with a 47-12 record including a 3-2 mark at the WCWS. Washington (49-12) advances to face top-ranked Florida (63-3) in the WCWS Championship Series.
Washington's Danielle Lawrie earned the win from the circle to improve to 40-8. Lawire pitched a complete game allowing three runs on five hits while striking out 12. Freshman Erin Arevalo, who made her first-career start, took the loss to finish the season at 2-1 after pitching 1.2 innings allowing five runs on five hits. Senior Christie Hamilton also saw action in the circle for the Bulldogs in her final game working 4.1 innings and surrendering four runs on six hits while striking out six.
Hamilton and fellow senior Kristin Schnake closed out their Bulldog careers with a combined three-year record of 149-64.
The Huskies struck big in the first with four-straight hits capped by a grand slam. Three-straight singles from Ashley Charters, Kimi Pohlman and Jennifer Salling loaded the bases for Lawrie, who hit the four-run homer out to right.
In the second, Washington added its fifth run on an RBI triple down the left field line from Charters. Lauren Greer scored the run from first after reaching on a leadoff single.
The Bulldogs produced their three runs in the top of the third frame. Freshman Lisaira Daniels led off with a triple to left, and three batters later with two outs, sophomore Alisa Goler delivered a two-out RBI single up the middle. Sophomore Megan Wiggins followed with a double that moved Goler to third and set up a two-run single through the left side of the infield.
In the bottom of the third, the Huskies got one of those runs back on a one-out, solo home run to left center from Morgan Stuart.
The scored remained 6-3 until Washington added three more runs in the sixth off of a RBI single to left from Niki Williams and a two-run double to left center from Salling.

Congratulations to the Georgia softball team. What an incredible season. I've loved following the team all year long, and especially in the post-season. (Continued…)
